Abstract

Family history and lifestyle behaviors are important factors associated with the development of type 2 diabetes among young adults. This study examines the relationship between a family history of diabetes and selected lifestyle-related risk factors in this population. Factors considered include dietary habits, physical activity, body mass index, sedentary behavior, sleep patterns, smoking, alcohol consumption, and stress. The findings suggest that young adults with a positive family history of diabetes may have a greater risk of developing abnormal glucose regulation, particularly when unhealthy lifestyle behaviors are also present. Low physical activity, excess body weight, poor dietary patterns, and prolonged sedentary time may further increase this risk. In contrast, regular exercise, balanced nutrition, healthy weight maintenance, and adequate sleep may help reduce modifiable risk. The study highlights the importance of early screening, risk awareness, and preventive lifestyle interventions among young adults with a family history of diabetes.
